Towards an efficient implementation of the European Protection Order against gender violence

The EU Member States have protocols addressing protection of victims of gender violence (in particular women and children). However, the lack of harmonisation cause malfunctions in the protection offered to victims when exercising their right to freely move and reside within the EU since the protection provided in each Member State has different characteristics.

In the framework of the Daphne Programme, we intend to analyze the state of art of the protection measures of gender violence victims when exercising their right to freely move and reside within the EU since the protection provided in each Member State has different characteristics. One of the measures launched by the EU in order to cope with this issue is the Directive 2011/99/EU on the European protection order, that protects persons against criminal acts of other persons that suppose a risk for their life or physical, psychological or sexual integrity, but that has a particular relevance for the protection of victims of gender violence.

The Project seeks to offer a Handbook comprising both legislation in force and indicators allowing for the correct transposition of the Directive and the adoption of effective protocols for the protection of victims within of the framework of the freedom of movement and residence.

The Project is co-ordinated by the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) in partnership with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and the participation of the University of Szczecin (SZC) from Poland and the Bulgarian Judges Association (BJA). Besides, experts from all EU Member States provide support since the conclusions of the project shall be of avail for all EU Member States and the Union institutions themselves.
